Epson Expression Home XP-440 Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner and Copier, Amazon Dash Replenishment Ready
As its name suggests, the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Printer is meant to be a home printer. However, it doesn’t fit neatly into that category. Notably, its text output is better looking and surpasses that of many home printers. If text quality is anything to go by, you’re better off considering it for general home use, at least for a light-duty home office.

Ideally, as more consumer trends are evolving, the need to either be very large or small, perhaps the largest TV, but a small enough music player to fit in your pocket. A printer is a strange place, though. Many people find them awkward for their size, most probably hide them in the back of the closet but here’s a printer you won’t be hiding anytime soon. The price is right even for original printing, scanning, and copying.
As you might expect from the price, the paper handling isn’t all that glamorous. The Epson Expression Home XP-440 Printer has a 100-sheet input tray, no duplexer, and no upgrades in sight. Even by home and home-office standards, this is an absolute limit for light-duty use. However, setup and output speed are relatively standard matter with output quality better than expected for a printer intended for home use.
While this does not guarantee absolute professional quality for documents such as resumes, it is certainly sufficient for most business and personal needs. As with text quality, it’s predictable that color photo quality will fall short of what you’d expect from drugstore prints.
While color photos on the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Printer exhibit some tint to various shades of gray, you can use it for photo printing, especially for photos with, say, framing. Strictly for color photo printing. If you want to print photos in black and white with different shades of gray then this is clearly the wrong printer. But if you’re looking for an MFP for home use, light-duty home-office use, or dual-use in a home and home office, it offers a lot to like otherwise.
All told the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Printer offers decent quality compared to most home printers, but that doesn’t mean it’s otherwise focused on office needs. Unlike the Brother MFC-J430W, for example, it lacks office-focused features such as an automatic document feeder (ADF) with a fax capability that’s needed for a new office.
An Ethernet port is also conveniently missing on the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Printer. Although it includes Wi-Fi as a connection voice, you’re in for a toast if you don’t have a wireless connection in your office or home. If you do, Wi-Fi connectivity will make it for you to share the dual role of home and home-office printers.
In addition to copying as well as printing and scanning from a PC, the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Printer is capable of printing and scanning them to and from a memory card. It uses JPG as the default printing option but you have the option of either JPG or PDF scanning format for the files. Amazingly, it lets you preview JPG files before printing them on its 2.5-inch color LCD.
It also supports mobile printing via the cloud, though the only option for connecting to the Internet without Ethernet is through a Wi-Fi access point in your network—which enables cloud printing when connected via a USB cable. controls. On the plus side, the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Printer features Wi-Fi Direct which allows you to directly connect to Wi-Fi and print or scan from any supported smartphone or tablet.
Our Rating | Excellent
Epson Expression Home XP-440 Printer, Wireless Color Photo with Scanner and Copier can be fulfilled because of the right selection for home/student use.
- Low Price-high quality text
- Wi-Fi Direct
- No Ethernet
- No automatic document feeder
Epson Expression Home XP-440 Printer will suffice as the right choice for light home/student use. It delivers surprisingly good print quality, but ironically, the expensive ink means you shouldn’t buy this machine unless you print much, in which case the cost of the ink matters less. holds. Overall, the combination of text, graphics, and photo quality, along with extras like Wi-Fi Direct for easy printing from smartphones and tablets, would be hard to match anywhere else at this price, thus easily passing as the right choice.
