HP ENVY 6055 Wireless All-in-One Printer, Mobile Print, Scan & Copy, HP Instant Ink ready, Works with Alexa (5SE16A)
The HP Envy 6055 All-in-One is an affordable printer that produces it to our Editors’ selection list, because of its glorious prints and being an entire expert with an included scanner. Despite its relatively low price, it has decent features and looks great in most aspects.
The body of HP ENVY 6055 is made of plastic, not a metal printer saw, but it feels solid and the power cable can be detached, so replaced, unlike some printers with permanent cables. It has a smaller profile, measures 5.1 x 17.1 x 14.2 inches, and weighs 11.5 pounds.

Design
HP ENVY 6055 With its compact form factor, the HP 5SE16A makes it an ideal candidate for offices with limited space. However, when you buy it to conserve space, remember that the scanner should leave enough headroom to cover the lid, should you need to use it.
On the front section, there are five light touch button controls, nothing more. Most of the conversation will be done through the app. While this sounds like a lot of work for some, for others, it simplifies use with minimal clutter and is super easy to set up and use.
Print Quality
Not the fastest printer in the room – It’s a budget printer, but it still delivers good print quality. If you’re coloring you’re getting a good six pages per minute in black and white, or four per minute. For photo printing specifically, it takes about a minute for a 4 x 6-inch color photo.
Color quality on the HP ENVY 6055 is pretty impressive, delivering well-toned, punchy prints within a defined range. Every color is clear, with lots of detail, making for great photo printing—or at the very least, decent all-in-one.
On the downside, the HP ENVY 6055 fails to impress with tones, which somehow seem washed out. The same can be said for blacks that lack the depth you typically find on other photo printers. For a very dark look, it’s possible to pick up a little banding in grayscale, but for the rest of us, it won’t go unnoticed.
Features
One of the great features here is the must-have HP app. It makes setup very simple with just one page of instructions. Yes, only one and you’ll scan the QR code directly. A single scan will get you the app that will take you through the setup for Ink, Paper, and Wi-Fi. In total, you’ll spend less than 10 minutes from set up to ready to print. Impressive.
Another impressive feature here is the scanner. Since the HP ENVY 6055 All-in-One is on our list of photo printers, the scanner pits it against dedicated photo printers, which often come without this feature. The scanner’s maximum copy speed is eight pages per minute in black and four pages per minute in color, at 300 x 300 dpi resolution.
The HP Envy 6055 offers a 1200 x 1200 dpi black and white resolution, backed by a decent 4800 x 1200 resolution for color prints. Color is delivered through a four-color ink color cartridge, but the black cartridge is different. Yes, just two make it easy to replace. This may not be ideal – however, especially if you print the same color too many times, as this will mean changing the color cartridge for just one color while wasting the other.
Our Rating | Excellent
The HP Envy 6055 All-in-One stands out as a great printer for anyone looking to print color photos, but will also make use of the scanner and copier features.
Pros
- Easy to use and setup
- Quite affordable
- Quality photo prints
Cons
- Lacks dedicated photo printer quality
- Not as fast as HP claims
Conclusion
The HP ENVY 6055 All-in-One stands out as a great printer for anyone looking to print color photos, but will also make use of the scanner and copier features. With its compact profile, it is equally a great candidate for small offices with limited space and ease of use. And, if you need a printer that’s easy to set up and use without a lot of extras, this is a must-have.
However, with simplicity comes to some tradeoffs, including the lack of a display on the printer, and it can’t print the highest quality photos. Plus, since it only comes with a single color ink cartridge, which means you’ll end up spending more than average if you’re printing the same colors frequently.
That said, the HP Envy 6055 All-in-One is great for a home-school setup, a good printer for a college dorm, and of course a home office with exciting features including scan and copy capabilities. It’s our Editors’ latest pick for a budget all-in-one printer.
